The Cardiothoracic Unit currently provides cover for the North of Scotland, looking after the population of Grampian, as well as providing tertiary North of Scotland Cardiac Surgery cover for NHS Highland, Tayside and the islands. The unit also forms a crucial part of the Major Trauma pathway, as well as supporting General Intensive Care with the provision of regional adult ECMO services. The service currently undertakes around 600 open heart procedures and around 200 thoracic surgical procedures for patients from the North of Scotland, with potential for demand to increase following a recent national review. There are strong links with wider services, with collaborative working encouraged across the organisation and beyond.
The successful candidate will join 3 NHS Consultant staff (excluding this post), 3 Specialty Doctors, 1 ST, 3 CFs and 1 CT. In addition, the team are supported by a Lead Advanced Nurse Practitioner, as well as a team of ANP’s, Surgical Support Practitioners and Physician’s Associates.
Please note that all Consultants undertake cardiac and thoracic surgery as the emergency on-call is for both (predominately thoracic trauma).
We are looking for enthusiastic, dedicated, and forward thinking individuals to join our dynamic team. The applicant should have the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary clinical team and have an understanding of and willingness to participate in improvement and redesign. As well as management of patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings, the appointee will join the on call rota and will be expected to work a one in four rota with prospective cover for holidays and study leave. The emergency cover will be for Cardiac and Thoracic work.
