The Role:
Overall responsibility for carrying out a range of operational tasks associated with acid bath sampling, monitoring and testing of the effluent neutralisation plant, and monitoring and testing treated water discharged to drain. All tasks must be carried out in the most compliant, safe, efficient and effective manner possible.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Undertake numerous operational tasks to enable the effluent plant and pickle line to run as effectively and efficiently as possible.
2. Monitoring and replacing acid inhibitor
3. Draining and filling pickle line tanks and rinse tanks
4. Manually starting and stopping steam lines
5. Receiving acid and lime deliveries
6. Monitoring and draining of sumps and bunds
7. Sampling acid baths
8. Transferring ferrous chloride solution and cleaning associated filters
9. Monitoring transfer tank pumps
10. Checking neutralisation tanks
11. Manually dosing lime
12. Checking and changing air supply to neutralisation tanks
13. Checking final transfer tank pumps
14. Titrating pickle line bath samples
15. Lime plant troubleshooting
16. Flushing lime recirculation pipework and switching lime supply
17. Filling, checking and maintaining polymer systems
18. Checking clarifiers and filtrate holding tanks
19. Transferring sludge, monitoring holding tanks and operating filter press cycles
20. Sampling and analysing effluent plant performance
21. Flushing sludge transfer pipework and pumps
22. Sampling and performing moisture content tests on filter cake
23. Calibrating pH meters and digital burettes
24. Cleaning, monitoring and sampling turbidity and final water meters
25. Inspecting pickle lines
26. Dealing with chemical spills
27. Carrying out safety and housekeeping audits
28. Adhering to Job Method Statements and set procedures at all times
Qualifications and experience required:
29. Previous experience in a similar role
30. Demonstrated competence through training records and experience
31. Ability to work alone while adhering to strict quality control systems and operational procedures
32. Ability to work as part of a team when required
33. Proficiency in basic IT applications including MS Word and Excel
34. Full UK Driving Licence
35. Hold CCNSG (training can be provided if required)
