Band 5 Staff Nurse - Haematology Oncology Day Unit

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Registered Nurse to join the team on the Haematology & Oncology Day Unit at Good Hope Hospital. The post holder is responsible for the toxicity assessment pre administration of systemic anti-cancer treatments (SACT) and supportive treatments. The nurse led unit provides a specialist Oncology and Haematology nursing service to patients, families and carers by demonstrating advanced clinical knowledge and principles of the safe delivery of SACT and supportive products within the day unit setting. Experience in this area is desired, but not essential as specialist education and training will be provided. The unit at GHH is open Monday-Friday 08.00-18.00hours, closed bank holidays. Informal visits welcomed prior to application
Main duties of the job
Safely assess SACT patients and be confident in managing treatment related toxicities. Be competent in the administration of Intravenous, Subcutaneous, oral and intra-muscular SACT. Skills in Cannulation, venepuncture and accessing Central venous access devices are desired as well as a willingness to undertake venesections and blood transfusions
The post holder is required at times to be the Nurse in charge and will be supported by the senior nurse in managing acutely unwell patients and liaising with the MDT
