Milk Education is working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Gateshead to appoint a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join their supportive team.

Role: Teaching Assistant
You will work closely with class teachers and SEN staff to support pupils’ learning, engagement, and personal development. You will provide targeted support both in and out of the classroom, helping to create a positive and inclusive learning experience for all pupils.
Key Responsibilities
Classroom Support
* Support the class teacher in delivering engaging and inclusive lessons
* Work with pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups to reinforce learning
* Adapt resources and activities to meet individual learning needs
* Assist in preparing classroom materials and maintaining an organised learning environment
Supporting Pupil Progress
* Encourage pupils’ confidence, independence, and motivation
* Support children with additional needs to access the curriculum
* Help pupils stay focused and engaged during lessons
* Provide constructive feedback to teaching staff on pupil progress
Promoting Positive Behaviour & Wellbeing
* Model positive behaviour and attitudes to learning
* Support pupils in developing social skills and emotional regulation
* Use consistent behaviour management strategies in line with school policy
* Build strong, positive relationships with pupils based on trust and respect
Supporting Development & Life Skills
* Encourage communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills
* Support pupils during transitions throughout the school day
* Promote inclusion and a sense of belonging within the classroom
* Contribute to a positive school culture where every child feels valued
Essential Criteria
* Experience working with primary-aged children (school-based experience desirable)
* A patient, calm, and nurturing approach
* Strong communication and teamwork skills
* A genuine passion for supporting children’s learning and development
* A relevant Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable)
* Experience supporting pupils with SEND, SEMH, or additional needs (desirable)
