As the practice grows, we are lookingfor an additional experienced Healthcare Assistant to join theirexpanding team and work alongside our current Healthcare Assistant.Teamwork and mutual support are integral to our working practices and we offera friendly and supportive atmosphere.
We are seekingan enthusiastic Healthcare Assistant who will work part/full time. Asthe role of the Healthcare Assistant, you will assist the GP's andnursing team to deliver safe, high-quality primary care services to ourpatients.
Main duties of the job
A day inthe life of our new Healthcare Assistant:
* Weight, height, waist circumference and BodyMass Index Measurement of legs for compression hosiery
* Doppler ultrasound measurement working with aRegistered Nurse
* Obtain venous blood samples from individuals forinvestigation if required
* Processing and management of laboratory samplesrequested by Doctors/Nurses
* Undertake vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoringand recording
* Assist clinicians in carrying out minor surgicalprocedures including sterilising, cleaning and maintenance of surgicalequipment
* Prepare and maintain environments and equipmentbefore, during and after patient care interventions
* Venepuncture, wound care/dressings, ABPM, ECGs,Urinalysis, NHS health checks, etc.
* Routine blood pressures/blood glucose
* Flu vaccinations, B12 injections

Job responsibilities
* Undertake new patient health checks
* Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes
* Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximitery, blood pressure, temperature and pulse rate, recording findings accurately
* Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly
* Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required
* Support the practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics
* Carry out BMI checks as directed
* Act as a chaperone as required
* When trained, undertake venepuncture
* When trained, administer flu vaccinations
* When trained, carry out ear irrigation under the supervision of the practice nurse
* Carry out ECGs as requested
* Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation
* Provide support during minor operations as required
* Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session
* Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidance
* Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the organisations IPC policy
* Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Healthcare qualification (level 3 or 4) or working towards gaining equivalent level
* Previous completion of the HCA Care Certificate
Experience
* Experience of working with the general public
* Experience of working in a healthcare setting
* Experience of working in a primary care environment
Clinical Knowledge & Skills
* ECGs
* Venepuncture
* New patient medicals, including height, weight, BP, pulse
* Chaperone procedure
* Ability to record accurate clinical notes
* Wound care/removal of sutures and staples
