Inspired are collaborating with a respected scientific society whose remarkable goal is to advance research and empower healthcare professionals with the insights, data, and expertise required to tackle and manage infectious diseases. The society is now seeking an experienced and proactive Editorial Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations and strategic development of two highly respected journals.
Role Details:
Location: London (Tuesdays and Wednesdays in the office)
Salary: £35, - £40,
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
This is an exciting opportunity to join the society at a pivotal time, as they expand Open Access publishing, grow submissions, and strengthen their influence within the infection prevention and control community. Working closely with the Editors-in-Chief and editorial boards, you'll help shape editorial direction, optimise workflows, and increase journal visibility in the academic publishing landscape.
Key Responsibilities:
·Oversee peer review and editorial workflows using the Editorial Manager platform
·Build strong relationships with editors, reviewers, authors, and the publishing partner
·Lead strategic initiatives to grow journal reach, submissions, impact factor, and open access revenue
·Manage production schedules and ensure timely publication of high-quality issues
·Support content development, including special issues and commissioned articles
·Represent the society and journals at national and international conferences
·Collaborate on editorial budgets, including APC waiver monitoring and reporting
·Coordinate journal communications across websites, social media, and member platforms
·Provide secretariat support to editorial committees and board meetings
·Work closely with marketing and publishing teams to promote journal content and drive engagement
What We're Looking For:
You'll have experience in a publishing role within a learned society or scholarly publisher, with a strong grasp of editorial workflows and the ability to manage competing priorities to tight deadlines. Exceptional editing skills, attention to detail, and knowledge of the academic publishing sector are essential. Experience with editorial management systems (e.g. Editorial Manager) and a proactive, collaborative approach are key.
Desirable experience includes commissioning content, developing special issues, and working with editorial boards or voluntary committees.
