Server and Storage Engineer
Join Northumbria Police’s Digital Policing Department as a Server and Storage Engineer.
Base pay range
Salary: Career graded 7-9, £32,874 – £49,716
Location: Agile – Ponteland Police Station and homeworking
Hours/Contract: Permanent, 37 hours per week
The role
We need a professional to help deliver a performant, cost‑effective and resilient Server, Backup and Storage environment that meets critical business SLAs.
What you’ll do
* Install, upgrade, configure and document new Server, Storage and Backup systems.
* Provide 2nd/3rd line support, liaising with internal and external groups.
* Evaluate opportunities for greater efficiency and optimisation to reduce costs.
* Identify trends and implement proactive strategies to minimise service‑affecting issues.
* Provide root‑cause analysis of service‑affecting incidents.
What you’ll bring
* Significant experience supporting enterprise‑level servers in an Active Directory domain.
* Experience building and deploying Windows Server 2019/2022 in a datacentre.
* Proven ability to troubleshoot day‑to‑day issues in an enterprise client/server infrastructure.
* Experience planning and upgrading servers and hardware in a datacentre.
* Strong experience with Active Directory including GPO configuration & troubleshooting.
* Strong experience with TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP and general networking concepts.
* Experience with enterprise backup and/or storage products.
* Experience with scripting tools (PowerShell, VBScript).
* Knowledge of administering RHEL/SUSE.
* Knowledge of ITSM products (SCCM/SCOM preferred).
* Working knowledge of VMWare (ESX, vCenter, VDI) – training will be provided if needed.

Terms of appointment
This is a permanent role subject to a six‑month probationary period. Successful candidates must be resident in the UK for at least five years to satisfy vetting requirements.
