Applications Engineer Location: Midlands-based (Nationwide Role) Job Type: Full-time, Permanent A well-established machine tool supplier is seeking an apprentice-trained Applications Engineer (or CNC Programmer / Machinist) to join its experienced field-based training and applications engineering team. This role would suit someone from within the machine tool or precision engineering sector who enjoys customer interaction, technical problem-solving, and hands-on machine work. Experience across turning and milling is highly desirable. The Role Working nationwide, you will support customers across a broad range of CNC machine tools, delivering training, applications support, and technical guidance both pre- and post-sale. Key responsibilities include: Training customers on the use of CNC machine tools Supporting customers to maximise machine capability and performance Demonstrating machines pre- and post-sale Troubleshooting and resolving technical issues Providing technical support to customers and internal teams Feeding back technical issues and best-practice improvements Recommending process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce costs Candidate Requirements Completed a minimum 4-year engineering apprenticeship Strong background in CNC programming and machining Comfortable working hands-on with machine tools Excellent communication and customer-facing skills Experience with turning and milling machines preferred Exposure to ProtoTRAK and/or Siemens controls beneficial (training provided) Willing to travel nationwide, including occasional nights away Training & Development Structured onboarding and initial training at a UK headquarters location Ongoing mentoring with senior applications engineers Continuous professional development programme with a personal development plan Package & Benefits Competitive salary 25 days holiday plus bank holidays Company vehicle with fuel card Mobile phone and laptop Hotel card for overnight stays Company pension scheme Health and wellbeing programme Salary sacrifice electric car scheme WR Engineering are the 1 recruitment partner for engineering, manufacturing & technical sales jobs.
