Overview
Part Time Legal Caseworker – Corporate and Commercial Law. Permanent, part-time position offering 22 hours per week (working across 3, 4 or 5 days per week, Monday to Friday). Fixed days and hours will be required each week. Location: Chelmsford. Working Style: Anywhere Worker with attendance at County Hall, Chelmsford one day per week. Salary: £25,081 to £27,653 per annum (full-time equivalent). Closing Date: Tuesday 9 September 2025 at 11.59pm. Interview Date(s): Thursday 18 September and/or Friday 19 September 2025.
Please note: This is a part-time position, with working patterns determined at appointment and fixed for each week.
The Opportunity
Essex Legal Services provide high quality, professional legal advice across the Council and to external clients. The team delivers a client facing legal service that proactively embraces change and delivers value to customers.
Responsibilities
* Support legally qualified colleagues in the delivery of routine legal work across the Council and to external customers.
* Understand client needs and provide a valued service that supports productivity and efficiency improvements.
* Support colleagues in developing current and future business opportunities to promote Essex Legal Services’ vision to the external market.
* Deliver personal objectives aligned with the function’s business plan.
* Develop good working relationships across the Council, schools, other local authorities, and the private sector to ensure a quality service for customers.
* Assist with tasks such as engrossment and sealing of deeds and documents, preparing call-off contracts and warranties, deeds storage, post and document management, and managing incoming work and team inboxes.
* Support lawyers with projects including note taking, proofreading, and research and other related tasks.
Qualifications
Essential
* Experience of working in a legal setting within a public service or private sector environment, assisting in the provision of legal work.
* Educated to Level 3 (A Level) or equivalent by experience.
* Proven track record of excellent customer service skills.
Desirable
* Collaborative approach with colleagues and clients to understand needs and deliver positive outcomes.
* Ability to develop professional credibility with clients at varying levels.
* Ability to build working relationships across a large organisation and with internal and external partners.
* Evidence of continuing professional development and knowledge in relevant professional areas.
