Job overview

We are looking to appoint a new Specialty Doctor in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. You will join a team working closely alongside our Consultants and other Specialty Doctors.
The post comprises 10 programmed activities (PAs), which could be modified for a candidate preferring to work 10 PAs or less than full time.


Main duties of the job

* Day to day running of the labour ward, obstetric wards and
gynaecology wards.
* Regular gynaecology theatre sessions with the team consultant
* Running of the ante-natal and gynaecological clinics to participate in the department’s teaching, audit, and educational activities
* Daily ward rounds, inpatient and outpatient management of
patients, operating lists and on call.

Person specification


Qualifications/ Training

* Shall have full registration and a Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council.
* MRCOG part 1 or qualification of an equivalent level
* MRCOG part 2


Experience

* Shall have completed at least four years’ full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty; or Shall have equivalent experience and competencies.
* Demonstrate an interest in, commitment to and have broad experience in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
* Ability to offer and be accountable for full and independent expert diagnostic opinion
* Can evidence leading on patient safety issues and achieving a change in practice
* Understanding of core research principles, methodology and ethics
* Demonstrate an understanding of the basic principles of audit, evidence-based practice and clinical quality improvement initiatives


Skills

* Able to evidence engagement with clinical governance and the identification of errors and the learning from errors.
* Evidence engagement with appraisal and revalidation
* Able to show situational awareness and application of good decision making
* Ability to effectively teach clinical skills


Knowledge

* Demonstrate understanding of basic principles of audit, evidence-based practice, and clinical quality improvement initiatives
* Comprehensive knowledge and insight regarding all the domains within the GMC standards of Good Medical Practice

* Demonstrates an interest and commitment to the specialty
* Experience and evidence of engagement around the equality, diversity, and inclusion agenda. Able to actively support the development of a culture that recognises and promotes equality, values diversity, and actively leads by example in deploying these qualities. Understands the impact on equality, diversity, and inclusion issues in all aspects of service delivery and planning
