Overview
WSP is looking for an enthusiastic and diligent Electrical Engineer to join our Maritime team based in the UK. As part of the team you will contribute to the technical delivery of a wide range of UK‑based and international projects for a variety of clients, from local authorities to private clients and international terminal operators. You will provide input at all stages of project maturity, including Feasibility Studies, Concept Designs, FEED Studies, Value Engineering and Detailed Design. Under the supervision of senior team members you will prepare electrical deliverables such as Single‑Line Diagrams, cable calculations, cable block diagrams, plant layouts, cable routing, cable containment design, switchgear configurations and produce bills of materials/quantities in accordance with international standards and client requirements with minimal guidance. You will draft electrical specifications, review contractor design submissions and assess them against Employer Requirements, specifications, national and international standards, codes, and good working practices. You will work with equipment vendors on designing equipment packages, participate in technical evaluations of vendor designs, and work with owners, operators and investors to assess the condition of electrical assets. Additionally, you will develop project‑management skills through close interaction with clients. The role is hybrid; you will visit sites around the UK and may be required to travel for overseas projects.
Qualifications & Experience
* Degree or similar qualification in a relevant Engineering subject with significant postgraduate experience in electrical design, operation, maintenance and testing.
* Attainment of or working towards professional registration with the Engineering Council UK (ECUK) at Chartered (CEng) level leading to Corporate Membership of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
* Chartered Engineer or working towards IEng/CEng and a member of a relevant Engineering Institute.
* Capability and desire to assume a lead role in the development of electrical deliverables and the assessment of assets under construction or in operation.
* Knowledge of design, construction and operation of power and energy projects.
* Experience working on Maritime projects (container terminals, liquid and dry bulk terminals, offshore wind, ro‑ro, etc.).
* Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities and civil engineering skills.
* Ability to check and produce quality technical outputs and solutions.
* Capability to coordinate and work effectively with other disciplines and team members.
* Competent in using MS Office‑based software.
* Clear communication in English, both orally and in writing.
* Personable, approachable, enthusiastic and empathetic.
* Hold a full UK Driving Licence.
* Knowledge and practical experience of one or more of the following design tools:
o AutoCAD
o Revit
o AMTECH ProDesign
o ETAP
o PSCAD
o PowerFactory (DIgSILENT)
o Dialux
o Relux
