Position: Teaching Assistant / Support Worker (Full Time, Term Time Only)
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:45am - 3:10pm (hours fixed, non-negotiable)
Additional Roles: Bank/Supply roles available
Salary: NMW / Level 2 Teaching Assistant Salary
Requirements: DBS on Update Service required; willing to apply for a new DBS
About the Role
We are recruiting for Teaching Assistants and Support Workers at Leicester-based Special Needs Schools. The role involves working 1:1 with children experiencing extremely challenging behaviours, including Autism, ADHD, SEMH, PMLD, attachment difficulties, and other vulnerabilities such as CSE/CSA and risk of harm to themselves or others.
Applicants with experience or backgrounds in mental health, social care, youth work, security, residential care, SEN training, children’s services, or sports coaching are preferred. Applications from Psychology and Criminology graduates, as well as individuals with personal experience supporting vulnerable individuals, are encouraged.
Main Responsibilities
1. Providing 1:1 behaviour support to pupils with challenging behaviour and SEN needs
2. Managing and implementing strategies to de-escalate and manage challenging behaviours
3. Acting as a positive role model and offering nurture support
4. Supporting numeracy and literacy development through booster sessions outside the classroom
5. De-escalating volatile and heightened situations
6. Supporting pupils across primary and secondary phases
The ideal candidate will have experience working with challenging behaviour in educational or support settings. Personal experience with SEMH, Autism, or mental health challenges is highly valued. This is a temporary role with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.
