Offer description

To undertake the design, development and implementation of Major Maintenance, Traffic Engineering & Structural measures to improve road safety and network efficiency throughout the County of Wiltshire.


Responsibilities

* Prepare, develop and design Highway schemes throughout the county through the proficient use of specialist IT software to include ACAD, SignPlot, SignMap, MapInfo, AccMap, Parkmap, KeyLines, KeySigns, AutoTrack.
* Identify practical, innovative and effective solutions to sensitive highway problems and arrange implementation to improve capacity and road safety.
* Formulate designs in accordance with Health and Safety legislation and the Construction and Design Management Regulations.
* Manipulate and analyse the network and Pavement Management System data to provide reports and technical recommendations to colleagues and senior management on network condition.
* Interpret road condition data and prepare technical reports and evidence to insurance colleagues and highways staff on road condition.
* Maintain a high level of industry knowledge on highways and structures asset management principles and systems.
* Produce drawings in various formats using corporate geographical information systems and displaying data in appropriate formats.
* Issue work to the term contractor, undertake site supervision, agree amendments and attend site progress meetings, covering a wide range of highway related projects and applying appropriate civil engineering principles, techniques, and methods.
* Apply key principles, techniques and methods of data and technical information collection, analysis, and evaluation to support the delivery of civil engineering models, designs, and technical solutions.
* Operate appropriate software packages for data gathering and analysis, such as Computer Aided Design (CAD) or Building Information Modelling (BIM), to create technical drawings, models and designs using relevant conventions and engineering terminology.
* Apply statutory health, safety and welfare policies, procedures, and regulations in the civil engineering environment, using risk management processes, procedures, and documentation.
* Support and contribute to the production or modification of civil engineering technical solutions in accordance with relevant industry standards, regulations, and procedures and codes of practice.
* Apply environmental policies and sustainable principles in civil engineering projects, recognising the need to reduce carbon use, lower emissions and plan for wider sustainability.
* Plan, carry out and manage own work in line with quality assurance, recognising the wider implications to customer needs, and within cost and resource limitations.
* Consider equality, diversity and inclusion in the delivery of civil engineering projects.
* Apply document control processes and procedures using the approved processes, maintaining quality compliance when creating or amending engineering documentation.
* Communicate using appropriate methods for the audience, incorporating relevant and appropriate terms, standards, and data.
* Apply ethical principles to civil engineering projects, including the secure use of data and information.
* Plan, undertake and review own professional competence, regularly updating and reviewing CPD to improve performance.


Qualifications

* GCSE in Maths, English & Science (grade C/4) – share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
