Job Advertisement: SENDCo (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator)
Location: Chelmsford
Contract: Temporary Fixed-Term (Summer Term Only)
Start Date: 13th April
End Date: End of Academic Year
Salary: Annual salary (pro rata)
Reporting to: Headteacher
We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a dedicated and experienced SENDCo to join our lovely primary school in Chelmsford for the summer term. Our school in Chelmsford is a warm, inclusive, and supportive environment where every child is encouraged to flourish both academically and personally. This temporary role in Chelmsford is ideal for someone looking to make a meaningful impact in a short period of time.

About the Role

As SENDCo, you will take full responsibility for leading and managing all aspects of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities provision across the school. The SENDCo will ensure that pupils with additional needs receive high-quality support, enabling them to achieve their full potential. This SENDCo role requires strong leadership, organisation, and a passion for inclusive Education and training.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage the school's SEND provision in line with statutory requirements

Oversee the implementation of the SEND Code of Practice

Identify pupils with SEND and coordinate appropriate interventions

Monitor, track, and evaluate pupil progress and impact of support strategies

Develop and review Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and EHCPs

Work closely with teaching staff to ensure high-quality inclusive teaching and learning

Provide guidance, support, and training to staff on SEND strategies and best practices in Education and training

Liaise effectively with parents, carers, and external agencies (e.g. educational psychologists, therapists)

Ensure accurate and up-to-date SEND records and documentation

Manage SEND resources and provision efficiently

Promote a culture of inclusion and equality across the school

Support safeguarding and wellbeing of all pupils with additional needs

Contribute to whole-school improvement, particularly in relation to SEND and Education and training

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

The National Award for SEND Coordination (or working towards it)

Proven experience in a SEND leadership role

Strong knowledge of SEND legislation and best practice

Excellent communication, organisation, and interpersonal skills

A genuine passion for inclusive Education and training and pupil success
