Job Summary
There is an exciting opportunity for an experienced leader to join the operations team at ABUHB.
The Deputy Head of Operations will be a visible, authoritative, and professional clinical leader responsible for patient experience and strategically leading all day-to-day and forward operational planning and decision-making on the acute hospital sites, liaising with multi-professional colleagues throughout the Health Board. The role is expected to deliver cross-system leadership daily.
Proficiency in Welsh is desirable; applications are equally welcome from English and Welsh speakers.
Main Duties
1. Assess the hospital's ability to manage emergency and elective demand, devising and implementing daily operational plans and forward planning in collaboration with divisions and the Head of Operations.
2. Maintain an accurate, up-to-date bed state across the system, monitor occupancy, and analyze bed management data for Sit Reps, audits, and external requirements. Manage patient transfers to ensure capacity and safety for emergency and elective admissions across all acute sites.
3. Utilize excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills to convey complex, sensitive information to diverse audiences, often with barriers or emotional reactions.
4. Provide arbitration on bed use, including admissions and cancellations, aligning with Health Board requirements to meet inpatient and ED KPIs and ensure patient safety.
5. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop standardized protocols and improve care pathways.
6. Support Service Managers and Senior Nurses in deploying nursing staff effectively. Deputize for the Head of Operations when necessary.
