Eligibility Criteria
* Have completed your probation period and been confirmed in post by formal offer of appointment.
* Have passed the initial police training course in a Home Office force.
* Live within 30 miles (crow or road) and a 1‑hour commute of two of our main police stations.
* Have no pending complaints.
* Hold a full UK driver’s licence (manual or automatic).
* Currently working at a Home Office force, Channel Islands or Isle of Man Police.
Posting Opportunities
Thames Valley Police is particularly interested in recruiting ICR officers who wish to be posted to our Local Command Units (LCUs). These regions offer a variety of working environments, allowing officers to police diverse urban and rural areas while attending major events within Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire.
Transferee Detectives
As a detective with Thames Valley Police you will investigate serious and complex crimes, from initial crime‑scene management to court proceedings. Responsibilities include interviewing suspects, identifying witnesses, handling forensic evidence, preparing case papers, attending court, and serving as the point of contact for victims. Partnership working with social care, health teams, schools and uniformed colleagues is essential.
Substantive Detective Constable
Transferees may apply for substantive DC roles and be posted to a suitable team within the PCT, CID, CAIU, or DAIU, or pursue internal DC roles after a successful transferee interview.
Training
* All Home Office transferees attend a three‑week induction course at our Police Training Centre in Sulhamstead, covering public and personal safety training, ELS, and familiarisation with the TVP NICHE system.
* Following induction, you receive five weeks of tutoring/shadowing on an LCU.
* Accommodation is available during induction for officers living outside the posting policy.
