Are you an experienced HGV Technician ready to step into a leadership role while still staying hands-on?
We’re looking for a Workshop Coordinator / Charge Hand to support our Workshop Manager and lead a busy, professional HGV workshop at our Bridgewater Depot.
This is a great opportunity for a senior technician who enjoys problem-solving, mentoring apprentices, and keeping a workshop running smoothly.
The Role
You’ll be responsible for coordinating a team of technicians (including apprentices), managing job flow, and ensuring vehicles are repaired efficiently, safely, and right first time. You’ll act as the link between the workshop and front-of-house, helping maximise productivity and reduce vehicle downtime.
You’ll still be hands-on when required, while also taking ownership of workflow, quality control, and technical support.
Key Responsibilities
1. Carry out HGV repairs and diagnostics when required
2. Allocate job cards and manage daily workshop workload
3. Support and mentor technicians and apprentices
4. Ensure first-time fix to reduce VOR times
5. Provide technical support to the Workshop Manager
6. Liaise with external suppliers and 3rd-party repairers
7. Ensure service, inspection, and compliance documentation is completed correctly
8. Manage fleet maintenance systems and approve work within authority limits
9. Maintain quality control of job sheets and repairs
10. Monitor tools, equipment, and workshop inventory
11. Support parts procurement and manage imprest stock
12. Promote and implement preventative maintenance practices
13. Ensure all health & safety standards are followed
Essential Skills & Experience
14. Apprentice-trained HGV / Commercial Vehicle Technician
15. City & Guilds Part 1 & 2 (or equivalent)
16. Strong communication and decision-making skills
17. Good planning, organisation, and time management
18. Confident working in a leadership or senior technician role
Desirable (But Not Essential)
19. Strong PC literacy
20. Good understanding of fleet maintenance systems
21. Refrigeration experience
