EDI / API Specialist
Location: Liverpool, England, United Kingdom
To lead and manage the development, implementation, and support of EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) and API connectivity solutions for all UK Group companies across the UK & Ireland in collaboration with Regional Office (Europe) and Head Office teams. Acting as the key interface between business operations, IT, and external partners.
The role ensures efficient, accurate, and secure digital data exchange processes that support operational excellence and continuous improvement within the shipping organization.
Responsibilities
* Act as the interface between business and IT: Bridge communication and requirements between operational teams, vendors, and IT, ensuring alignment on EDI/API initiatives.
* Lead EDI and API projects: Oversee the development, implementation, and harmonization of EDI and API solutions, collaborating with regional and head office teams.
* User Acceptance Testing (UAT): Coordinate and execute UAT for new integrations and enhancements.
* Vendor and supplier management: Serve as the focal point for external partners, ensuring smooth data exchanges and resolving connectivity issues.
* Root cause analysis and troubleshooting: Investigate and resolve EDI/API issues, launch corrective roadmaps, and support operational teams with technical challenges.
* Standardization and harmonization: Initiate and drive standardization efforts (e.g., SMDG standards) for EDI processes.
* Monitoring and reporting: Track KPIs, generate EDI/API flow reports, and follow up on data transmission issues.
* Continuous improvement: Analyze business needs, propose technical solutions, and drive ongoing optimization of digital data exchange processes.
* Training and support: Train end users, document business requirements, and provide technical support for EDI/API tools.
* Stakeholder communication: Regularly inform and guide customers, vendors, and internal users about new digital tools and process changes.
* Project implementation: Ensure correct configuration and implementation of digitalization projects in line with business needs.
Qualifications
* Professional experience: Demonstrated experience with EDI/API in logistics, shipping, or sea freight environments.
* Technical proficiency: Familiarity with EDI, API, and related digital technologies; ability to work with current software and tools.
* Analytical and problem-solving: Strong analytical skills, root cause analysis, and solution‑oriented mindset.
* Project management: Ability to independently implement and manage projects, set priorities, and coordinate with multiple stakeholders.
* Communication: Excellent communication skills in English both written and verbal; able to communicate with technical and non‑technical audiences.
* Customer and vendor focus: Experience working with internal and external partners, providing support, and building relationships.
* Proactive and self‑motivated: Goal‑oriented, proactive, and able to work independently.
* Business process understanding: Knowledge of maritime transport, logistics processes, and business flows is a plus.
* Continuous learning: Willingness to stay updated on digital trends (e.g., e‑commerce, digitalization, EDI, API, AI).
* Administrative accuracy: Strong organizational and administrative skills, with attention to detail.
* People skills: Ability to train, coach, and motivate users; people management and leadership skills are a plus.
