Overview
Reporting to the Head of R&D Finance, the Director of R&D Financial Planning & Analysis is a key member of Alnylam's Finance team. This role will work closely with business leaders at all levels of the organization and will be focused on providing strategic financial support to the company's global development program teams.
This position is hybrid and will be primarily located in Cambridge, MA.
Key Responsibilities
1. Serve as the financial representative on global development program teams, working closely with Program Leaders, Program Managers, and functional experts. Offer guidance and support from a financial perspective while proactively managing potential risks and opportunities in alignment with Finance leadership.
2. Provide strategic financial support (e.g., NPVs, IRR) for business case reviews to facilitate decision-making by executive leadership. Present findings to program teams and senior leadership as appropriate.
3. Develop a new program financial dashboard in partnership with stakeholders across Finance and the business, summarizing financial and operational status and other key data points.
4. Support annual budgeting and long-range planning by aligning key assumptions between program teams and functional leadership, ensuring financial submissions are aligned.
5. Collaborate with R&D Finance, CMC Finance, and Alliance Finance teams to understand variances between actual results and budgets/forecasts. Review variance analyses with leadership and recommend adjustments as needed.
6. Assist in developing budgets for external partners in collaboration with the Alliance Finance team.
7. Build strong relationships within the broader Finance organization and support special projects and ad hoc analyses as needed.
8. Support the growth and development of junior team members in R&D Finance.
Qualifications
* Bachelor's Degree in Finance or related quantitative field (e.g., Statistics, Econometrics, Mathematics). Advanced degrees like an MBA are preferred.
* 10+ years of experience in FP&A, accounting, valuation, or strategic finance roles.
* 6+ years of biotech/pharma industry R&D experience.
* Strong knowledge of financial valuation methodologies used in biotech/pharma.
* Ability to switch between strategic discussions and operational tasks within a matrixed organization.
* Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively across functions and seniority levels.
* High level of integrity, accuracy, and attention to detail.
* Positive, flexible, and client-service-oriented attitude towards business teams.
