Quality Assurance Engineer - Aerospace Software (DO‑178B/C, ARP4754A, ED‑12C)

Our client, a respected leader in the aerospace sector, is seeking a Software Quality Assurance Engineer to strengthen their engineering assurance function. This permanent role focuses on ensuring the highest standards of software quality, compliance, and process integrity across safety‑critical aerospace design and development programmes.
Working closely with engineering teams, suppliers, and certification stakeholders, you will play a key role in assuring compliance with DO‑178B/C, ARP4754A, ED‑12C, and associated aerospace software and systems development standards.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as the primary Quality Assurance interface for software and system development projects.
Review, assess, and approve development lifecycle artefacts to ensure conformance with quality system requirements and DO‑178 processes.
Develop and maintain Software Quality Plans aligned with contractual, regulatory, and customer expectations.
Conduct audits of software and systems engineering lifecycles to ensure adherence to DO‑178B/C, ARP4754A, ED‑80, DO‑254, and related aerospace compliance frameworks.
Verify that customer requirements, design assurance criteria, and milestone transition criteria are fully met.
Ensure all lifecycle data used for certification and conformance assessment meets required quality and traceability standards.
Identify, document, and manage deviations or non‑conformities within the design and development processes.
Provide ongoing QA governance and oversight throughout the full development contract lifecycle.
Required Experience & Skills
Proven experience in Software Quality Engineering, Quality Assurance, or Design Assurance within the aerospace industry.
Strong understanding of software and systems engineering lifecycles with practical knowledge of:
DO‑178B/C (Software Considerations in Airborne Systems)
ARP4754A (Systems Development)
DO‑254 / ED‑80 (Hardware Design Assurance)
AS9100 quality management principles
Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
Excellent analytical, communication, and documentation skills.
Ability to manage and assure sub‑contractor performance and adherence to quality plans.
Competent with MS Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook) and general web-based applications.
