The feature engineering team is responsible for all aspects of fan and artist experience. The team is always building and refining its work and it ships multiple products and features every year. Main Job Duties As a Staff Engineer, you will collaborate with other engineers, product management and design to clarify specifications and build high quality, well-tested software that delivers an excellent user experience. As a senior staff member, you will be directly responsible for product delivery, scheduling and architecture. You will also work directly with partners from across the business to understand and meet their needs. This role requires a balance of teamwork and independent initiative. You thrive in cross-functional team settings while also demonstrating the ability to own projects from kickoff to deployment with little supervision. You will be expected to communicate effectively with teammates while making autonomous decisions when needed. You combine technical expertise with a self-motivated approach and a genuine passion for Bandcamp's mission of supporting independent music. Required experience 10 years of front- and back-end programming and software architecture experience, building consumer software products, preferably in a marketplace context. Team leadership and demonstrated communication skills. Demonstrated commitment to process improvement and quality. Programming experience in Ruby or a similar high-level language like Python, C# or Java. This position requires you to become an expert at Ruby if you do not already know it. Front-end development experience using Vue or similar technologies like React. This position requires you to become an expert at Vue if you do not already know it. Relational database expertise; demonstrated expertise writing SQL and building schemas that run quickly in real-time. This position requires you to become an expert at MySQL if you aren’t already one. Desired Skills & Experience Your working hours must have 4 hours of overlap with US central time. You must have the ability to attend and participate in a daily standup meeting at 11:00am US central time. You must be willing and able to learn and work with a large legacy codebase. Linux or macOS command-line expertise, including use of z-shell or bash. An eye for—and focus on—user experience.
