Job overview
The Bladder and Bowel Specialist Service provides community based care, including specialist advice and guidance to people in our community Integrated Neighbourhood Teams, Acute Trusts, Primary Care and Health Care Professionals within Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG). The service provides advice and guidance; self-management strategies through face to face clinics and other media means to all professionals, patients and members of the public. Education, training and workforce planning to Sirona staff and external partners.
The Bladder and Bowel Service is a multi-professional service working across BNSSG. Adults are seen in clinics to diagnose and treat continence or other bladder and bowel problems. A specialist domiciliary service is offered to housebound patients where the Integrated Network Teams requires additional expert guidance.
Current working hours of the service: 8 - 5 pm 5 days a week, but there is an expectation to be able to work 8am to 8pm 7 days a week.
The service has flexibility in bases with clinics across BNSSG, the services main offices are currently at Southmead Health Centre and Marine View but there is an expectation to travel to patient’s homes, clinics, community settings and BNSSG wide.
Main duties of the job
You will be responsible and able to:
* · Provide specialist advice and support on promotion of continence and management of incontinence.
* · You will have the ability to assist the Clinical Team Leaders and Administration Team in management of the Bladder and Bowel caseload (adult).
* · Be required to work autonomously in both clinics, patients own home and care homes.
* · You will be able to demonstrate an in depth knowledge of continence care that is research and evidence based ensuring a patients centred service which incorporates appropriate ethical and moral dimensions of practice.
* · Be competent in the following skills: bladder scanning; vaginal examination; rectal examination, bladder management techniques, bladder and bowel emptying techniques; bowel management techniques.
* · You will also have the responsibility of managing the process for continence products in accordance with continence assessments.
* · As a B&B specialist clinician, the post holder will provide highly expert assessment advice guidance and treatment programmes for people with B&B conditions. Supporting staff within the team and wider community to enable people to self-manage their presenting condition and provide an outcome focused intention to care, treatment and improvement.

* During your first two weeks, you will complete an extended clinical induction to ensure you are equipped with the tools and knowledge needed before picking up shifts
* You will then complete orientation shifts to meet the team and undertake clinical skills sign-off
* Once orientation is completed, you will have access to an app where you can view upcoming shifts and book direct

Person specification
Experience, Skills and knowledge
* To be competent in performing specialist assessments and treatments with patients who have a variety of prognosis/Long term conditions and complex B&B care needs
* To have thorough and up-to-date expert knowledge of and best practice within Bladder and Bowel conditions
* Ability to supervise support workers and students effectively when required and give guidance and leadership to all within the MDT
* Able to demonstrate organisational skills and effective prioritisation of workload
* Able to produce accurate written reports, assessments and letters
* Extensive experience of working in one or more of the following continence, urology, gynae, colorectal and community services.
* Good interpersonal and communication skills - to communicate clearly and effectively both with patients and other professionals. Some communication may be highly sensitive and emotive
* Able to present information to a variety of audiences utilising a variety of methods of delivery
Qualifications
* Registered Nurse or Healthcare Professional (Adult)
* Demonstrate attendance and certification of B&B courses
* Master’s degree or willingness to work towards one
* Special interest in management of bladder and bowel conditions
