Context
Exploring engagement: Active Learning in Practice is a 2025-26 internal project funded by Warwick International Higher Education Academy (WIHEA). It is a scoping review looking into the deployment of active learning approaches at Warwick; seeking to understand what, if any, methods are used and how these align with wider understandings of active learning in the sector. The project will seek input from both students and staff on their perceptions and experiences, with a view to using the findings of the research to make evidence-based recommendations to enhance teaching practice.
You would be joining a small, friendly cross-institutional group of Warwick colleagues, all interested in active learning approaches in Higher Education
Student invitation
We are looking for two current Warwick University students (UG and PGT) to join the research team (comprising staff from 5 different departments, and one PGR Lead Project Officer) for this one-year project. The involves co-created design and implementation of the projects’ surveys and focus groups, the analysis of data and the reporting and dissemination of findings. It is anticipated that students will work closely together and with the research team, to achieve these aims, and will be supported to develop their skills and experiences by senior colleagues.
Duties and responsibilities
* To co-design the staff and student surveys (using Qualtrics), including carrying out a pilot of the student survey.
* To analyse survey data and responses, and to communicate findings within the research team.
* To set up and run several focus groups with students from across the University.

* To support the finalising of a research report and any dissemination activities related to this.
* To help to evaluate the effectiveness of the project.
* To work effectively with named individuals in the research team, attending meetings, communicating in shared projects spaces (e.g. MS Teams) and keeping to deadlines.
* To manage workload alongside studies and other responsibilities, and to communicate progress and any issues arising, promptly.
Within the project duties, it will be possible to focus on areas of interest and skills development (e.g. partake in more analysis) subject to the timescales and deliverables of the project.
Skills and experience
* Current Undergraduate or Postgraduate Taught (Masters) student at University of Warwick. You should be enrolled during the academic year 2025-26.
* Previous experience of project work and/or demonstrable interest in projects or research related to teaching and learning in Higher Education.
* Ability to manage time well, including studying and other commitments, and to commit the designated number of hours to this alongside other things.
* Proactive approach, including strong communication skills and the ability to work independently as well as alongside others in a small team.
* Collegial approach to working/strong team ethos.
* Willingness to learn to use new tools or approaches relevant to the research project, undertake training and mentoring and to adhere to project research protocols and requirements.
