Assistant Quantity Surveyors at Barhale are integral members of project teams, providing support to project delivery teams and senior management daily. Barhale’s civil engineering and infrastructure projects vary in value, complexity, and duration, from established frameworks to bespoke projects and emergency works. Project values range from £200k to £10m+; the role focuses on driving efficiencies, cost control, and high-quality commercial analysis to meet contractual requirements and successfully manage projects.


Responsibilities

* Manage resources
* Produce and send enquiries to subcontractors inviting them to tender and engage with the supply chain
* Receive and analyse quotations, liaising with Contracts Managers and Site Agents regarding price, history, and availability
* Notify in writing both successful and unsuccessful subcontractors in a timely manner
* Produce and process formal subcontract documents and certify interim and final payments and final subcontract accounts
* Produce bill of quantities/activity schedules for payment purposes
* Produce cash flow forecasts for internal and client purposes
* Monitor and control income and expenditure on contracts (interim/final applications for payment/final accounts/payments), liaising with engineers, clients, etc.
* Produce relevant monthly reports for the Commercial Manager (cost and value comparisons, turnover forecasts, etc.) ensuring information is complete and accurate
* Manage information
* Contribute to and attend financial and progress meetings with client engineers and subcontractors as required
* Provide advice and support to the site team to optimise the use of contract resources
* Provide support for the Managing Surveyor in terms of data input
* Provide feedback to Estimators and Contracts Managers regarding contract pricing, projected profit/loss, pricing omissions, etc.
* Key measures & targets: accurate monthly forecasting, ability to challenge resources and costs, maintaining deadlines in line with the monthly commercial calendar


Additional Responsibilities

* Attend and contribute to commercial and progress meetings as required
* Support the site team in optimising contract resources and providing robust data input
* Maintain effective communication with the Commercial Manager, Managing Quantity Surveyor, and the commercial team
* Develop and maintain professional relationships with clients, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders


Qualifications and Experience

* Desirable: Degree-qualified or equivalent, with appropriate experience and knowledge
* Wide experience of the civil engineering industry with some water industry experience
* CSCS card
* Proficiency in a range of IT packages, including Microsoft Office and bespoke systems
