Sport Welfare Project Officer

Contract: Fixed term until March 2027

Hours: 30-37.5 hours per week (flexible working options available)

Location: Home-based with national travel

Reports to: Strategic Lead - Welfare

Active Partnerships is seeking a Sport Welfare Project Officer to enhance the national coordination of a crucial safeguarding and culture change initiative in sport. This fixed-term role focuses on practical support, insights, and collaboration.

About the role:

This role supports a major national program aimed at improving safeguarding and welfare in grassroots sport. You will join a small team to connect and coordinate 63 Sport Welfare Officers nationwide, ensuring they have the necessary tools, support, and relationships to excel in their roles.

Your responsibilities include gathering insights, supporting daily operations, developing inclusive resources, and serving as a reliable contact—contributing to long-term cultural change in sport.

Roles and Responsibilities:

* Collaborate with the central team to deliver the Sport Welfare Officer Programme effectively.
* Build positive relationships with Sport Welfare Officers and stakeholders like Sport England, CPSU, and ACT, fostering trust and collaboration.
* Review evaluation submissions to identify key insights and inform future activities.
* Prepare clear internal reports to support programme decision-making.
* Coordinate project activities, including meetings, events, and logistics.
* Assist the communications team with large-scale events.
* Support the development of national tools, templates, and guidance to improve safeguarding practices.
* Ensure content and communications are inclusive and reflect diverse needs.
* Maintain good administrative practices to keep tasks and timelines on track.
* Travel approximately once or twice a month for regional and national events, and occasionally stay overnight for key events (3-4 times a year).

Knowledge and Skills:

* Strong interpersonal skills—rapport-building, listening, and sensitive communication.
* Excellent organization—managing time and tasks remotely.
* Openness to collaboration and valuing diverse perspectives.
* Good written communication—clear, friendly, adaptable for different audiences.
* Ability to identify themes in feedback to support decision-making.
* Basic understanding of safeguarding, welfare, and wellbeing principles.
* Proficiency with digital tools: email, video conferencing, shared documents, spreadsheets.
* Self-motivated and proactive, with support available when needed.
* Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in all activities.

Work Environment and Support:

* Home-based with regular virtual meetings.
* Travel approximately 1-2 times per month; overnight stays 3-4 times per year.
* Flexible working arrangements considered.
* Option to access co-working or local offices if preferred.
