New River Health is a busy GP Practice with 17,500 registered patients across two sites in Hertford and Ware.
We require a part-time Medical Secretary with excellent communication skills and a commitment to high-quality patient care to be part of our team.
The ideal candidate will be friendly, reliable and organised, with good reading comprehension and an ability to problem-solve.
Main Duties
Provide secretarial and administrative support to doctors, consultants, and clinical staff.
Process referrals done by members of the clinical team using Electronic Referral System (ERS).
Liaise with external agencies such as hospitals and community services to ensure referrals are processed efficiently and correspondence is communicated in both directions.
Manage a variety of enquiries from the wider practice team and patients.
Update and maintain electronic referral templates and standard letters.
Provide an efficient typing and word processing service for Doctors and Health Professionals, including letters, reports, and patient referrals as required.
Retrieve medical records as necessary and process private reports.
File patient records and correspondence in patient medical records, adding Snomed codes as necessary.
Receive incoming and initiate outgoing telephone calls to facilitate timely and appropriate communications, taking messages and dealing with queries.
Assist with gathering statistics and information, which may include carrying out searches.
Monitor worklists on ERS and process workflow/tasks inboxes aligned with the role.
Provide cover for members of the secretarial and administrative team during periods of sickness and annual leave.
Apply practice policies, standards, and guidance, amending as requested.
Undertake any other responsibilities relevant to the role of Secretary/Administrator.

* Formal secretarial or medical secretarial qualification, such as AMSPAR Diploma or Medical Secretary diploma.
