Offer description

Who are Fair Ways and what do we stand for?

At Fair Ways we believe in making a difference through passionate care, support and education. Together we aim to build an institution that makes a difference to society and leaves a legacy greater than ourselves and our contributions. Our values sit at the heart of everything we do; we measure our wealth by the difference we make, rather than the profit we make. Fair Ways is a leading children’s services charity based in the Solent, delivering fostering, education, residential and family services and caring for over 400 children, families, young people and vulnerable adults each year.

Where and when do we need you?

We are looking for a Literacy and Numeracy Unqualified Teacher at our transition centre based in Wallington, Fareham. At Fort Wallington School we specialise in both social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) difficulties and autism (ASC). Our primary focus is for staff to support students in their transitional period either to full‑time education or working towards a career, in collaboration with their Education Health Plan (EHP). Our students have all been identified as having complex and additional needs and are better suited to 1:1 or 2:1 learning with an individualised curriculum based on their specific needs. Students are placed with Fair Ways when most other mainstream or specialist schools have been unable to meet their needs, and are likely to have been out of education for a long period of time, having exhausted multiple placements.

Responsibilities

* Individualised lesson planning, delivery of lessons, marking of work and knowing when and how to differentiate appropriately using approaches that enable students to be taught effectively.
* Helping young people draw up action plans for employment, education and training and supporting them to achieve these goals, including a high standard of planning and delivery of the programme whilst addressing individual student needs.
* Participating in the completion and monitoring of all student assessments and being accountable for students’ attainment, progress and outcomes in your subject area.
* Supporting the implementation and delivery of each student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP) and Personal Education Plan (PEP) by providing relevant data to monitor progress, set targets and plan lessons.
* Liaising and negotiating with employers, colleges, universities and training providers to provide the best opportunities for our students.
* Demonstrating an understanding of and a willingness to learn how early life experiences may contribute to severe challenging behaviour.
* Recognising and accepting the possible need to intervene using positive handling strategies to make incidents safe, and working as part of a consistent team.

Successful candidates will work 37.5 hours per week, term time only. All candidates must have a full driving licence and have access to a vehicle. Successful candidates will be required to provide an enhanced Disclosure (DBS) at a cost met by Fair Ways. Fair Ways are unable to provide VISA sponsorship for this role and all applicants must be able to provide evidence of right to work in the UK.

Required qualifications

* To be qualified to a minimum of A Level or equivalent within a relevant subject area, ideally with experience within the education sector.
* To possess an understanding of legislation relevant to education and child protection policies and procedures.

Let us look after you!

* Exciting Opportunities: Participation in free staff lotteries with prizes such as holiday vouchers, weekends away, and fostering referral scheme vouchers.
* Work‑Life Balance: Holiday Accrual Scheme and the option to purchase additional holidays (up to 5 days). Flexibility to accommodate existing commitments.
* Health and Support: Access to Simply Health, a health cash plan, and an Employee Assistance Scheme providing emergency financial assistance and counselling services. Early Pay to withdraw an amount of salary early each month.
* Growth and Development: Education Grant providing funding for accreditation up to master’s level and leadership courses to enhance skills and progress in career.
* Wellbeing Matters: Team‑building days, summer festivals and well‑being initiatives, discounted gym memberships and a cycle‑to‑work scheme.
* Recognition and Rewards: Annual Staff Awards and Long Service Awards, pension scheme and eligibility for a Blue Light Card.
* Supportive Community: Diverse workforce that embraces all communities, encouraging inclusive culture.

Benefits may differ depending on contract type.
