Overview

We are recruiting a fixed-term Energy Senior Advisor (up to 2 years) with experience in working in or regulating energy sectors, including combustion plants, waste incineration and refineries. You will help regulate the energy sectors to protect people and the environment from emissions and support decarbonisation and climate resilience.
Responding to incidents is a central part of the role. You may be required to have an incident role and be available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident.
Responsibilities
* Provide expert support and technical leadership through advice, guidance, and training.
* Develop strategy for sectors and produce tools to regulate, support development and deliver environmental outcomes.
* Commission and manage external research projects where needed.
* Work with internal and external stakeholders such as Defra, DESNZ, internal operations teams, trade associations and other key industry players.
* Respond to incidents as part of the role and assist with incident response or business continuity during incidents.
* Lead and contribute to the Energy & COMAH team, part of Energy and Manufacturing Industries Regulation of Environment & Business Directorate.
Qualifications and Experience
* Ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures; actively consider diversity issues in work.
* Relevant technical and regulatory knowledge and experience in the work area, including knowledge of control measures for emissions to air where relevant.
* Ability to build and maintain relationships with colleagues, operators, partner regulators, government, trade bodies and academia.
* Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team to achieve common goals.
Competences and Descriptions
* Legislative Knowledge: Applies statutory environmental and technical requirements to protect the Environment Agency and the environment. Provides advice on regulatory requirements for combustion plants of different sizes and purposes.
* Works in Teams: Cooperates with a wide portfolio of work and delivers as part of a team, aligning priorities and responsibilities.
* Builds and Sustains Relationships: Develops and maintains effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including government officials, trade associations and EA operational teams.
