The Estates department at Furness General Hospital is a group of highly skilled electrical, mechanical and plumbing engineers, creative building craftpersons, and dedicated support staff.
We are looking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic Building Services Engineer to join us. You should be either an experienced and time served Electrician, Plumber, or Mechanical Engineer, looking to progress your career.
The successful candidate will work as part of a 24/7 rota - which includes protected rest days
– to provide 24/7 Estates cover to the FGH and Millom hospital sites.
Main duties of the job
To be part of a team which ensures the safe and continuous operation of the Estates function within a healthcare setting. This includes maintenance of building and engineering plant and equipment, in accordance with statutory requirements, codes of practice, guidance
notes and trust procedures, to a high standard.
To be the department’s point of contact for all out of hours incidents and breakdowns, carrying out first line assessment, fault finding, repair, substitute of service and/or safe isolation as required.
To be the Trust’s Fire Controlling Officer and undertake the duties of that role for the siteduring a fire event. To take on the role of (dependant on trade and after full training) an appointed Authorised Person for Estates disciplines such as medical gases, electrical safety,
ventilation, and decontamination.
To carry out line manager duties for out-of-hours contractors.
Working for our organisation
We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP
Practice, and Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
* Full Electrical, Mechanical, or Plumbing and Heating apprenticeship to HNC/HND + Specialist knowledge in relevant area or equivalent degree level experience
* CP/AP Pressure Systems or boiler operator training
* A recognised health and safety qualification
* Willingness to undertake further training
Experience

* Experience of engineering and building services installations
* Experience and knowledge of legal, statutory, and non-statutory legislation
* Experience of supervising/leading, and training others
