Job Overview
The Associate Director of Midwifery (ADOM) at Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust is accountable for the overall provision and management of high‑quality, responsive maternity services. The role provides operational and professional leadership, works closely with the Director of Midwifery (DOM) and the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, evidence‑based, personalised maternity care and delivery of the Trust’s strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities
* Deputise for the DOM in the Women and Children’s Care Group both within the Trust/ System and on the National platform.
* Lead and develop the midwifery workforce, including training, development and workforce planning.
* Champion the maternity patient experience and uphold quality and safety standards across services.
* Oversee and implement regional and national mandates for Women’s Services such as the CNST Maternity Incentive Scheme, Ockenden and the three‑year delivery plan.
* Represent the Trust at governance meetings and external forums, ensuring that the Trust’s values and objectives are consistently promoted.
* Act as a role model for staff, fostering a psychologically safe and open culture.
* Maintain robust communication pathways with external agencies (ICB/LMNS, NHSE Regional Maternity Team, CQC) and service user groups.
* Develop and review maternity service planning priorities, balancing national and local requirements.
* Drive performance management, setting KPIs, analysing data and implementing improvement plans.
* Serve as the infection control lead for the maternity service, reducing healthcare‑associated infection risks.
* Participate in on‑call rota and provide leadership in complex clinical/medical situations where sensitivity and integrity are required.
Qualifications
* Registered midwife with current NMC registration.
* Master’s degree in a relevant subject, or demonstrable senior leadership experience in maternity services.
* Evidence of recent and ongoing professional development.
Experience
* Extensive experience of senior management of midwifery services.
* Proven budget management skills and experience of managing complex action plans.
* Experience of leading organisational change and improvement in a complex environment.
* Demonstrable experience of multi‑professional and inter‑agency working.
* Experience of developing midwifery staff and maintaining clinical and professional standards.
* Track record of meeting national, regional and local performance targets and standards.
* Experience of safeguarding, clinical governance and risk management.

Other Requirements
* Positive commitment to uphold diversity and equality policies approved by the Trust.
* Demonstrated compliance with the Trust’s DBS policy; the cost of DBS applications will be recovered via salary.
* Acceptance of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 and related disclosure requirements.
