Technical & Adaptations Officer - Kent £31,283 P/Y 37 hours per weekPermanent Appointment
We are currently recruiting for a Technical & Adaptations Officer on behalf of a Local Authority client in Kenton a permanernt basis.
This is a hands-on enforcement and advisory role within Housing, covering HHSRS inspections, HMO compliance, housing adaptations, and Disabled Facilities Grants. You will work directly with tenants, landlords, homeowners, and internal stakeholders to improve housing conditions and deliver statutory housing services.
Responsibilities
* Investigate complaints relating to poor housing conditions and undertake property inspections using the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS)
* Inspect HMOs in line with licensing requirements, management regulations, and housing condition standards
* Prepare letters, schedules of work, and statutory notices to secure property improvements
* Take appropriate enforcement action to remove or reduce Category 1 and 2 hazards using relevant legislation
* Provide advice to landlords, tenants, and owners on property standards and available grants or loan assistance
* Serve and monitor compliance with legal notices and prepare offence case reports where required
* Carry out home visits to support housing adaptations, including assessing feasibility and advising on processes and timescales
* Provide technical input into Housing Adaptations and assist in managing Disabled Facilities Grants (DFG) and other adaptation funding streams
* Work in line with the Council’s Housing Policy and maintain strong links with Housing colleagues
* Advise clients and professionals on adaptation options, alternative accommodation, and funding pathways
* Liaise with stakeholders in a manner that reflects the Council’s values and objectives
Requirements
* Experience within Private Sector Housing or Environmental Health
* Strong knowledge of HHSRS, enforcement processes, and housing legislation
* Experience inspecting HMOs and dealing with compliance matters
* Understanding of Disabled Facilities Grants and housing adaptations (desirable)
* Ability to prepare statutory notices and case reports
* Confident communicating with residents, landlords, and professional stakeholders
* Full UK driving licence preferred due to site visits
