Boarding Housemaster/Housemistress

King’s Bruton is a thriving HMC co-educational boarding and day school for 330 pupils aged 13 to 18. Set in the heart of Somerset, the school combines a rich heritage with a forward-looking ethos and a genuine sense of community that is felt throughout every aspect of school life.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an energetic, inspirational and committed Housemaster/ Housemistress to lead Lyon House, a highly successful day and boarding house for boys. This is a pivotal pastoral role at the heart of the King’s community, offering the chance to make a lasting impact on the lives of pupils in a school that places care, character and connection at its core.
The successful candidate will bring warmth, integrity and strong leadership to the role, creating a positive, family-orientated environment in which pupils feel supported, valued and inspired to give their best in all areas of school life. As a visible and approachable figure, the Housemaster/ Housemistress will guide and motivate boys to thrive both academically and personally, while leading a dedicated team of Tutors to deliver the highest standards of pastoral care and academic support.
We are seeking a dynamic, well-organised and compassionate individual with a proven record of pastoral experience and the drive to build upon the outstanding care for which King’s is known. Excellent communication and administrative skills will be essential to ensure the smooth running of the House, and the successful applicant will be fully committed to the ethos of a busy boarding school, contributing enthusiastically to the co-curricular programme and the wider life of this vibrant community.
All Housemasters and Housemistresses at King’s teach a reduced timetable, and applications are welcomed from candidates across all subject areas. This is a residential position, and attractive rent-free family accommodation is provided on site.
The primary responsibility of the HsM is to maintain the highest standards of Safeguarding and Child Protection for the students, both in their house and across the wider school, whilst fostering and promoting the welfare of pupils.
