Salary: £33, - £39, (pro-rata for part-time and sessional)
Hours: 35 per week, 39 weeks sessional
Craigmount High School, Queensferry High School and The Royal High School are working collaboratively to provide an outdoor learning program with S1-3. The three schools have a strong history of working together across numerous curricular areas and now looking to expand this program.
The role of Instructor is to lead activity groups and plan and provide quality learning opportunities for S1-3 pupils. It is anticipated the successful candidate will spend one day a week in each school with a further two days of collaborative activities.
1. To plan a program of activity for global, targeted and intensive activities for pupils across the three schools.
2. To work collaboratively with partners including the City of Edinburgh Outdoor team to expand and enhance the outdoor learning program.
3. To attend staff briefings and take an active role in suggesting/planning appropriate activities for groups.
4. To prepare for instructional sessions
5. To instruct, lead and facilitate a wide range of activities to a high standard in accordance with Edinburgh Outdoor Learning guidelines.
6. To issue and take in outdoor equipment to/from groups reporting defects/undertaking minor maintenance as necessary.
7. To keep effective discipline in groups within a caring environment.
8. To be concerned for the pastoral care and personal development of all participants.
9. To manage emergencies in a safe/appropriate manner, administering first aid where required and complete appropriate reports.
10. To be familiar with and competent in running the range of Outdoor Learning Courses that are to be provided.
11. To take an active role in developing the range/scope of activities offered by the schools collaborative.
12. To maintain excellent relationships with school visitors and any members of the public (e.g. local landowners) that you come into contact with in the course of your work.
13. An ability to work well as a member of a team is essential.
This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.
