This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/record. We have an exciting opportunity for a permanent Band 8A full‑time Applied Psychologist within the Learning Disabilities Psychology Service in NHS Lothian. You will be based in our specialist learning disability inpatient services, where you will provide input to address the psychological needs of people with learning disabilities who present with complex mental health difficulties and/or significant behaviours that challenge. The post holder will focus on the William Fraser Centre (Royal Edinburgh Hospital). The role will entail collaborative working with multidisciplinary colleagues within a Positive Behaviour Support framework, as well as promoting a trauma‑informed and psychologically‑focused approach to care in our inpatient learning disability services. Audit, research, and evaluation will also be strongly encouraged and supported in this role.
We are looking for an applied psychologist who is passionate about the rights of people with a learning disability, and can display the skills and creativity to ensure psychological approaches are accessible to a group of service users with highly complex needs. The post provides a range of opportunities for service development, quality improvement, and implementation of MDT training and consultation. As such it is an excellent opportunity for those with a keen interest in developing their skills in systemic work and consultation models.
The Learning Disabilities Psychology Service provides a friendly, supportive and stimulating environment in which to work. Staff within our service have a range of clinical interests reflecting a variety of theoretical and therapeutic orientations, and you will be supported by the service’s consultant clinical psychologist/professional lead and 8b psychologists, as well as a peer group of Band 8a Psychologists.
