We are the largest and most prestigious department of our kind worldwide, ranked first in the UK (along with the Department of Culture, Media & Creative Industries) in the latest Research Excellence Framework.In 2025, the King’s College London and University of Nottingham will launch the new Leverhulme Centre for Research on Slavery in War, funded by the Leverhulme Trust for up to £10 million over ten years. The Centre will be the first to systematically investigate the slavery–war nexus across history and into the future, using novel interdisciplinary methods that span the social sciences, humanities, and data sciences—including forecasting techniques, survivor narratives, and Earth Observation data.
