Applications are invited for the above temporary, full-time positions working in the English Language Centre for Overseas Students (ELCOS) in the School of Arts Culture and Languages.

We are looking for enthusiastic and dedicated EAP teachers for our pre-sessional programme on campus in Bangor or on-line from anywhere in the UK in Summer 2025. We are offering 7 week contracts from 21st July to 5th September and 11 week contracts from 23rd June – 5th of September. ELCOS will support you by providing a detailed but flexible syllabus and one-week paid induction.

Candidates should have TEFLQ status, possessing either ELT Diploma or a master’s degree in a relevant subject with experience teaching EAP or ELT.

The ability to communicate in Welsh is desirable for this post.

This role will be coordinated from our campus in Bangor but due to the online nature of the work, all work can be carried out from anywhere in the UK.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Teaching Duties Will Include


* Planning, preparation and delivery of lessons, responding effectively to a variety of student backgrounds, learning styles and class sizes.
* Weekly assignment marking and feedback.
* Administering and marking of final examinations.
* Attendance at induction, coordination and standardisation meetings.
* Motivation of students to proactive engagement in learning and provide meaningful and constructive feedback on the quality of their work.
* Keeping abreast of new professional, educational and related social, economic and technological developments.
* Contribute to the development of new programmes.

Other Duties And Responsibilities

* The post holder will be expected to participate in performance review and developmental activities.
* The post holder will be expected to comply with the University’s equality policies and statements, Dignity at Work and Study Policy and the University’s Welsh Language Scheme.
* The post holder has a general and legal duty of care in relation to health, safety and wellbeing and must take all reasonable steps to ensure a safe and healthy working environment for themselves and for other members of staff, students and visitors affected by his/her actions or inactions. * The post holder must comply with relevant legal and financial policies and procedures and be aware of their responsibilities in terms of the legal requirements of their posts.

Person Specification

Essential

TEFLQ status, possessing either ELT Diploma or Masters in a relevant subject.

A minimum of two years teaching EAP on courses such as Pre-Sessional or International Foundation Year programmes in a UKHE provider.

Awareness of recent developments in HE and the field of teaching EAP.

Experience of working within different cultural contexts, for example, working abroad or work in the UK with a large proportion of international staff or students and being able to demonstrate intercultural awareness.

The ability to work flexibly and independently in a dynamic environment.

A commitment to creating inclusive, equitable learning environments.

Desirable

Both Diploma and Masters.

Evidence of further research PhD or work towards completing PhD.

Extensive experience of teaching pre sessional courses to undergraduate students. Experience of teaching online.

HEA Fellowship.

Evidence of engagement in conferences, associations.

Experience of delivering presentations of CPD sessions in a professional context. Experience of living and working outside own home country.

Fluency in one or more foreign languages.

Ability to use online meeting platforms such as Microsoft Teams for teaching.

Ability to use a wide range of multimedia systems and integrate them with your teaching.

Evidence of innovative ways to engage students online.
