Due to internal promotion, we’re recruiting for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join this dynamic team. The ideal candidate will play a key role in the development of mechanical designs for fibre optics components and systems. From conceptualization to implementation, the Mechanical Design Engineer will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful realization of innovative fibre optics products.We’re looking for someone who is well organised, adaptable, and driven. Reporting to the NPI Product Line Director, you will need to communicate well across all functions of both the Torquay site and wider G&H Global Business.Responsibilities; Develop mechanical design of new productsDesign and development of jigs and fixtures using Solid WorksCommunicate design needs and findings to team members, client or manufacturing partner to convey the design comprehensivelyCommunicate with contractors and supply chain to ensure that designs are delivered to the specified quality standards, within project budget and achieved the required timescalesTranslate engineering ideas into mechanical solutions and implement best practice solutionsPart number creationGenerate drawings suitable for manufacturing (e.g. BS standards)Deliver projects within budget constraintsProgress ECO through the mechanical design stageIdeal candidates will have the following attributes;A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in mechanical engineering and proven experience in mechanical designProficiency in Solid Works software, with a strong understanding of mechanical design principles and best practicesSolid grasp of materials science and knowledge of various manufacturing processes, such as injection moulding, CNC machining, and 3D printingExcellent problem-solving skills and the ability to analyse complex technical challengesStrong communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teamsDetail-oriented approach with a commitment to producing high-quality designs that meet performance and reliability requirementsExperience with finite element analysis (FEA) and other simulation tools is a plusSelf-motivated individual with a passion for innovation and continuous learningExperience in mechanical design with 3D CAD SolidWorks software design toolThe following would be advantageous but not essential; Background within the fibre optics industry or a related fieldExperience with industry standards and regulations related to fibre optics and telecommunications productsAs well as a competitive salary and training, company benefits include;25 days holiday plus bank holidaysCompany pension pays 6%Company bonus schemeHealth Cash Plan
