Occupational Health Specialist Nurse

* Provide effective day to day professional advice across the service
* Provide the highest standard of clinical care, ensuring that all clinical standards are met and where necessary taking appropriate corrective action.
* To lead on a substantial client contract
* Provide a visible, accessible and knowledgeable presence in the service to whom service users and managers can turn for assistance, advice and support.
* To develop, implement and evaluate Occupational Health policies in conjunction with the Senior Occupational Health Specialist Nurse and wider management team.
* On a daily basis supervise and support the work of the Occupational Health nurses in the department, reporting to and liaising with the Senior Occupational Health Specialist Nurse on general progress and around any areas of difficulty or need.
* To support the Occupational Health Nurses in delivering programmes of care for patients within the Occupational Health setting.
* To participate in relevant training, health education and induction programmes as required
Main duties of the job
* To share the responsibility for the day to day supervision of more junior occupational health nursing staff including coaching, mentoring and clinical supervision.
* In conjunction with the Senior Occupational Health Specialist Nurse liaise with service users monitoring and evaluating the service (by audit).
* To assist with the development of evidence-based practice and organisation of the work of the department.
* Participate in the development of Departmental, Trust Policies and procedures, working productively to identify through research, the appropriate terminology required to satisfy policy requirements of the Trust.
* To assist with audit of clinical practice and procedures to monitor, evaluate and enhance the quality, effectiveness and efficiency of the Occupational Health Service.
* To assist with the continued development and promotion of the service which will include working in committees and working groups within the Trust and occasionally regionally with the support of the Senior Occupational Health Specialist Nurse
* To promote all aspects of Health, Safety and Welfare in all Occupational Health work undertaken
* To participate in evaluating developments within the profession and changes in legislation to ensure that Sheffield Occupational Health Service is continually updating its practice.
* To participate in the Department's service delivery in line with the Trusts PROUD values and behaviour's.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered Specialist Community Public Health Nurse, with Specialist Practitioner Occupational Health
* NMC part 3 registration
* NEBOSH
* Counselling
Experience
* Experience of sickness absence and case management.
* Experience of Health surveillance and outbreak management
* Experience of supervising and motivating staff
* A clear understanding of the major OH issues affecting the NHS
* Experience of developing and implementing National Guidance/Health and Safety Policy into Occupational Health Policy and procedure
* European Computer Driving Licence or equivalent IT experience
* Previous experience of Occupational Health Nursing in the NHS
* Car owner/driver
* IOSH or NEBOSH qualification
* Experience in developing evidence based practice
* Experience of working with external client contracts
* Experience of gathering data and producing reports
Further Training
* Willingness to undertake any further training/development as identified in annual appraisal.
* Basic Counselling Course
* Excellent communication skills - written and verbal.
* Experience of supervising and mentoring staff.
* Experience of trend analysis
* Shows sensitivity to the needs of others
