The role of Treasurer provides the Board and the organisation's Executive Management with essential financial advice, guidance, and data that will enable us to make sound decisions concerning strategic direction and development, and also operational financial control and management. What are we looking for?
You don’t need specific financial qualifications to be a Trustee Treasurer, but we are looking for someone to make a contribution with the following areas of expertise:
* A strong background in finance
* a good understanding of the principles of sound financial management and strategic planning (essential)
* some knowledge or experience of charity finances, fundraising, financial consequences and pension schemes (useful)
* good numeracy skills to understand accounts
* an ability to present and explain complex financial information in an accessible way
* an ability to engage in discussion with fellow trustees in a constructive and respectful way in order to make good collective decisions
What will you be doing?
Working with our Finance Officer in the Bridgend office, the Treasurer is a key Board member who is responsible for overseeing the charity’s finances, and ensuring that fellow Trustees can be confident that the charity’s finances are used correctly and that the financial position of the organisation is secure and fit for our current and future needs. The charity also works in partnership on projects with other Citizens Advice offices in Wales and continues to be funded from a variety of sources such as core funding, grants, fundraising, and successful bids for a variety of community projects of varying duration. The role of Treasurer will include the following key responsibilities:
* Overseeing financial governance and strategy
* Ensuring financial transparency; develop and monitor realistic budgets, cash flow and forecasts; maintain the charity’s financial sustainability
* Presenting financial data in an accessible format, and providing advice and guidance to the Board on a range of financial matters, including risk
* Ensuring that the charity has an appropriate reserves policy
* Ensuring compliance with all of our financial statutory and regulatory obligations
* Leading our monthly finance subcommittee and attending Board meetings every 6 weeks
* Undertaking mandatory training required by Citizens Advice
