About the role
Base Location: Perth, Glasgow, Inverness or Aberdeen
Salary: Up to £68,200 + car / car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.
Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | options available
The key duties and responsibilities of the Protection Planning Engineer are as follows:
- Prepare protection settings for all types of plant and line assets on the SHE Transmission network, and ensure they remain fit for purpose throughout the asset life-cycle.
- Support the connections process to identify and articulate the impact of connections embedded into the distribution network on upstream transmission protections, and where appropriate contribute to necessary network changes to accommodate these connections.
- Provide post-fault analysis to ensure protection performance is in-line with design limits and Grid Code expectations (STCP 27-1).
- Provide specialist response to incidences of potential mal-operation of protection systems, and help to develop a technical understanding of the impact of inverter based renewables and their impact on installed relaying techniques.
- Engage with commissioning and Grid Code compliance activities to manage system settings in a dynamic customer connections environment (STCP19-3).
What do I need?
To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:
- Experienced in the calculation and application of protection settings for applications from 33kV to 400kV.
- You will be expected to gain proficiency in the use of PSSE & PowerFactory (if not already held) to aid with short circuit studies to support protection settings activities.
- You should be qualified to higher national certificate level or above, in an appropriate engineering discipline.
- Awareness of industry standards and codes to support network development activities and to inform system requirements.
- Full UK driving licence.
