Job Overview
This is a one year Enhanced clinical fellowship covering the breadth of knee surgery including soft tissue, joint preservation and primary/revision arthroplasty of the knee.
This fellowship will include exposure to single/multi-ligament knee surgery, osteotomy, patellofemoral realignment surgery, cartilage surgery as well as partial knee arthroplasty (UKR, PFJR), total knee arthroplasty and revision arthroplasty. There is also ample opportunity to experience knee specific trauma which includes peri-articular trauma and
related techniques.
Main duties of the job
Regular operating lists both supervised and independent depending on progress
Regular acute and elective outpatient clinics
Supervising treatment of patients at Frimley Park and Heatherwood hospitals
Carrying out post-operative ward rounds as appropriate
Participation in clinical audit and research activities within the unit
Active involvement in the training and supervision of residents as appropriate eg
in a theatre setting

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
The fellowship is designed to provide the fellow with the necessary supervised and independent experience in order to be ready for an independent consultant practice.
The fellow will be expected to work towards progressive autonomy and the aim would be to provide the opportunity of an independent supervised Saturday operating list suitable for their skillset and parallel to another consultant in order to develop their operative and theatre management skills.
In addition to clinical commitments, there is also an expectation for the fellow to work towards the production of one research paper related to knee surgery and the research program of the knee unit, which the fellow will have one-to-one guidance in order to complete and submit to a relevant journals/conference.
The fellow will have the opportunity to attend cadaveric workshops in order to familiarize themselves with the latest implants and techniques relevant to arthroscopic/open knee surgery and arthroplasty.
The fellow will also be expected to contribute to the regional Arthroplasty MDT with attendance and participation.
The post is a one year fellowship commencing in April 2027
