Job Summary We are seeking a highly motivated and forward‑thinking Consultant in General Internal Medicine (GIM) who shares our passion for driving service improvement and delivering high‑quality, patient‑centred care.

The role is part of a supportive multidisciplinary team and offers the opportunity to contribute to the education, supervision and training of Resident Doctors within GIM.
Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required As a senior clinician, the post holder will provide visible leadership and uphold the highest standards of clinical practice across the specialty. Key responsibilities include:
Delivering safe, effective, patient‑centred care and aligning clinical decisions with best practice and Trust priorities.
Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and supporting the smooth functioning of services across inpatient and outpatient settings.
Supervising, mentoring and developing medical staff at all stages of training, including structured teaching and workplace‑based assessments.
Contributing to clinical governance through audit, quality improvement, morbidity and mortality reviews, and the implementation of learning for patient safety and service quality.
Participating in strategic planning, business plan delivery, service development, and shaping pathways to improve patient experience and operational efficiency.
Promoting staff wellbeing, productivity, and professional growth, including supporting appraisal processes and fostering a high‑performing environment.
Person Specification Qualifications (Essential)
MRCP or equivalent.
Entered on the GMC Register with CCT in general internal medicine or another medical specialty, or equivalent within six months of interview.
Experience (Essential)
Eligible for inclusion on the GMC specialist register in geriatric medicine and general (acute) medicine or equivalent.
Demonstrated enthusiasm and commitment to older adult care.
Comprehensive clinical experience in geriatric and general (acute) medicine.
Desirable
Record of research and/or clinical audit relating to acute care of older patients, evidenced by peer‑reviewed publications or formal reports.
Higher degree research with ongoing interest in geriatric medicine.
Additional Criteria (Essential)
Excellent communication and multidisciplinary teamwork skills.
Clinical leadership and managerial skills for acute elderly care teams.

Pay & Contract
Salary: £113,565.00 to £150,569.00 per year.
Contract: Permanent.
