Consultant in Paediatric Endocrinology & Diabetes

Job overview

This is a confirmed substantive post and an exciting opportunity to join the existing Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes team at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children (BRHC), UHBW. We are a recognised Centre of Excellence previously with two European Reference Networks as a specialised centre for both Rare Endocrine and Rare Bone disease. We have recently been commissioned as the south west region CEW (Complications of Excess Weight) hub site by NHSE and Bristol is also one of the four nationally commissioned, NHS England funded complex Osteogenesis Imperfecta service. The endocrine and diabetes team based at the BRHC will consist of 6 NHS endocrine and diabetes consultants, one University of Bristol clinical academic for diabetes and Obesity, and 2 Consultant Paediatricians with an interest in diabetes, 4.9 WTE paediatric endocrinology/late-effect nurse specialists and 8.2 WTE PDSN, 3 WTE dietitians and 2.8 WTE Clinical Psychologists. The new post will join the specialist endocrinology services and large diabetes team and work with the endocrine late effects team or a sub‑speciality interest to meet the needs of the service.

Person specification


Qualifications

* Full and specialist registration with the General Medical Council (GMC)
* MRCPCH by examination or equivalent.
* On the GMC’s Specialist Register in paediatric endocrinology OR within six months of CCT at time of scheduled interview. Note: Portfolio Pathway (formerly CESR) applicants must be on the Specialist Register at the point of application
* Diabetes Spin or equivalent or within 6 months of completion
* Valid BLS training
* Higher academic qualification
* Endocrine paediatric speciality training or another sub‑speciality interest to fit in with departmental requirements


Experience

* Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in relevant specialty
* Approved Grid training in paediatric endocrinology or equivalent
* Diabetes SPIN or equivalent, Diabetes technology
* Able to take responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision
* Experience of teaching medical students.
* Experience of supervising trainees.
* Knowledge of teaching to a multidisciplinary team
* Wider experience, research, and training, in providing subspecialty service
* Evidence of a special interest and expertise that complements those of other consultants in the department and is consistent with the Trust’s service strategy
* Experience of working in the NHS
* Valid APLS and NLS (this may be mandatory for some posts).
* Formal teaching qualification


Skills

* Up to date knowledge and experience of relevant specialty
