Skilled HGV Technician Monday - Friday 06.00 - 16.00
To oversee the day-to-day operation of the Irthlingborough workshop, ensuring the efficient and safe management of all workshop activities. The Workshop Foreman will supervise and support technical and semi-skilled staff, assist in the planning and scheduling of work, and uphold all company procedures, safety standards, and compliance requirements. This role is key in delivering a productive, safe, and professional workshop environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Workshop Operations & Technical Support
2. Manage daily operations of the workshop in line with company policies and health and safety standards.
3. Support the Fleet Manager in the effective planning and coordination of workshop activity.
4. Provide hands-on technical assistance and guidance to technicians and semi-skilled personnel.
5. Allocate work effectively, ensuring resources are fully utilized and staff skills are matched to tasks.
6. Supervise workshop staff, ensuring discipline, productivity (95–100%), and performance standards are maintained.
7. Control access to the workshop, ensuring only authorized personnel are permitted.
8. Ensure all workshop systems and processes are followed correctly, including job card management and supplier usage.
Compliance & Safety
9. Enforce and promote safe working practices and ensure workshop areas meet safety standards.
10. Report on all health and safety issues, faulty equipment, and accidents or injuries promptly.
11. Conduct routine safety observations and contribute to compliance improvement initiatives.
12. Maintain a 100% first-time MOT pass rate and lead investigations into any shortfalls or failures.
13. Ensure all services are completed during their designated service weeks.
Administration & Reporting
14. Ensure accurate and timely completion of job cards on the Power Management System.
15. Upload supporting documents from Tachomaster for all completed defects.
16. Maintain a daily workshop log covering Freightroute and customer activity.
17. Obtain formal authorization for all customer work before commencement.
18. Use preferred suppliers for all parts and service purchases to control costs.
19. Ensure all billing-related documentation is accurate and submitted promptly.
Staff Management
20. Monitor attendance and working hours of all workshop personnel.
21. Address and report any staff issues or disciplinary matters in line with company policy.
22. Ensure that either you or the Workshop Manager is present and on duty whenever the workshop is open.
