A vacancy has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Specialist Grade Doctor in Addictions Psychiatry within NHS Ayrshire and Arran.
The post has an office base at Lister Street, Crosshouse Hospital, with clinical work to also take place at other Addictions bases in East Ayrshire. The post will involve:-
1. The community assessment and treatment of patients being supported by the East Ayrshire Rapid Access to Drug and Alcohol Recovery Service.
2. Specialist Grade Doctor input for the ten Pan-Ayrshire elective admissions beds within the dedicated Addictions Inpatient Unit in Ward 5, Woodland View Hospital on the Ayrshire Central site. This unit is focussed on detoxification and co-morbid mental health and alcohol / substance rehabilitation.
You will join the five existing consultants in the specialty and work as part of well developed multi disciplinary and multi agency services which together provide a comprehensive range of addiction services.
An active academic programme, which has full accreditation with the Royal College of Psychiatrists, is in place. There are excellent opportunities for research and linkage to academic departments and the development of special interests is strongly encouraged. The Psychiatry Department at NHS Ayrshire and Arran are committed to offering specific SAS Doctor support and development opportunities. There is ready access to a local SAS Educational Advisor and opportunity and support to use the SAS development fund.
Applicants will be expected to have Full GMC Registration (with Licence to Practice) and to have completed 10 years medical work (either continuous period or in aggregate) since obtaining a primary medical qualification. Of these ten years medical work, a minimum of six years should have been in a relevant psychiatry specialty in the Specialty Doctor and / or closed SAS grades. Relevant experience from overseas will also be accepted.
The Terms and Conditions of service are those determined by the Terms and Conditions of the Specialist Contract 2022 (Scotland), as amended from time to time, and are offered on an 8 Programmed Activity basis. Opportunities may exist for Extra Programmed Activities and further SPAs subject to service requirements. Applications from candidates looking for less than 0.8 WTE working will also be considered. There is also an option (on negotiation between the successful candidate and the Clinical Director) for other base locations and locations of work within the NHS Ayrshire and Arran Alcohol and Drug Recovery Service portfolio to be considered if desired by the candidate.
