Financial Controller Opportunity, New National Energy Organisation
A newly established, high profile energy organisation is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to join during its critical set up phase. This is a unique opportunity to build finance processes, shape governance, and play a key role in establishing a new organisation from the ground up.
Reporting to the Director of Finance, you will take ownership of financial control, accounting policies, and statutory reporting, while ensuring robust governance and compliance frameworks are in place.
Key Responsibilities
Financial control and governance
• Develop financial policies, procedures, and governance frameworks
• Establish robust financial controls across the organisation
• Set accounting policies and ensure compliance with reporting standards
• Develop counter fraud strategies and supporting action plans
Statutory reporting and audit
• Lead production of the Annual Report and Accounts
• Act as main point of contact for external auditors
• Prepare technical accounting papers and guidance
• Provide assurance over balance sheet integrity and controls
Treasury, tax, and financial operations
• Develop cash management policy and oversee treasury activities
• Manage company bank accounts and cash flow processes
• Develop tax policies covering VAT and corporation tax
• Oversee month end close, journals, and balance sheet reconciliations
Stakeholder engagement and advisory
• Work closely with senior stakeholders across the organisation
• Liaise with government departments and external bodies
• Provide technical accounting guidance across the business
• Support finance decision making across operational teams
Team development and growth
• Support the ongoing development of the finance function
• Future line management responsibility for Financial Accountant
• Help shape finance team structure and responsibilities
Candidate Profile
• Fully qualified accountant, ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent
• Strong technical accounting knowledge, including IFRS 9
• Experience producing statutory accounts and working with auditors
• Strong balance sheet and financial controls experience
• Knowledge of UK tax requirements including VAT and corporation tax
• Strong Excel and financial analysis capability
• Able to operate in a changing and evolving environment
Desirable Experience
• Experience working in a start up or newly formed organisation
• Knowledge of Companies Act requirements
• Experience within public sector or government aligned organisations
