This role is located at Astrea Academy Dearne in Barnsley.
Astrea Academy Dearne is looking for an outstanding Cover Supervisor to join our teaching team.
The successful candidate will supervise whole classes of scholars and ensure that work which has been set is completed in the absence of the teacher. This is a perfect role for a candidate who is considering a teaching career in the future – the CPD you will receive in this role will be second to none.
Astrea Academy Dearne is an 11-16 secondary academy situated in Barnsley, with around 1150 students. We are within commutable distance from Wakefield, Leeds, Doncaster, and Sheffield and are a proud member of the Astrea Academy Trust family of schools. We have the highest aspiration for our students to achieve their very best and grow both as individuals and as members of their community. We are a truly comprehensive and inclusive academy. This is reflected in our approach to all areas of our work.
We are committed to a knowledge-rich curriculum and a traditional approach to teaching, behaviour, and culture. We believe that schools must teach powerful knowledge, 'the best that has been thought and said,' and an ‘entitlement curriculum’ for all. We believe in explicit instruction and have been greatly influenced by Lemov’s ‘Teach Like A Champion,’ Rosenshine, and recent developments in cognitive science. We believe that creating a scholarly culture that is warm and strict, disciplined and joyful, where there is ‘purpose not power,’ and ensuring impeccable behaviour, underpins everything.
We are values-driven, and our vision is to provide an inclusive, aspirational, and academic education for all our students, so that all of them will learn, thrive, and lead successful lives. We are unapologetically ambitious for every child, regardless of background, prior attainment, or needs. We aim to ensure all students have options to attend university or pursue aspirational alternatives. We do not reduce expectations based on background, home life, English proficiency, or special education needs; instead, we strive to help children overcome barriers and flourish.
We value our staff highly and treat workload very seriously. Our systems are designed to allow teachers to focus on their core purpose – teaching – in a sustainable way, free from bureaucracy or poor behaviour.
What we offer:
* Huge support and progression opportunities
* A knowledge-rich curriculum, built on ‘powerful knowledge’ and a traditional T&L approach based on Rosenshine and TLAC
* Collaborative planning with centralised, shared units of work and resources
* Disruption-free learning environment and a ‘warm/strict’ behaviour system
* Highly visible and supportive senior leaders
* Centralised detentions, including homework detentions (you do not need to organise or chase them)
* Excellent ongoing CPD, career development, and promotion opportunities across the Astrea South Yorkshire region
* Opportunity to complete NPQs
* An unrivalled professional progression model
The successful candidate will be:
* Aligned to our values and mission. If you fit with our culture, you will love working here.
* Someone who passionately believes that all children can achieve, regardless of their starting point, background, or needs. Someone who does not make excuses for what children can achieve.
