Overview
Health and Safety Advisor - Field Operations, based in Inverness, Scotland, covering a large geographical area in the north of Scotland with possible occasional support to other regions. This is a field-focused health and safety role within Scottish Water, supporting the Customer Services Directorate (CSD) and embedding health and safety practices across the organisation.
Responsibilities
* Provide comprehensive health and safety advice and support across regional levels of the business to meet legal requirements and Scottish Water’s safety standards.
* Identify, evaluate, control, and monitor risks; implement safety standards in compliance with legislation and strategic objectives.
* Research, develop, implement, and review health and safety standards and procedures; promote safe practices in areas such as Excavations, Working at Height, Lifting Operations, COSHH, DSEAR, Confined Spaces, and Lone Working.
* Ensure business functions operate within Scottish Water’s unified Health & Safety system and provide practical, cost-effective guidance based on legislation and best practices.
* Collaborate with management to develop health and safety action plans; design and deliver training to managers and employees; gather feedback and drive continuous improvement.
* Audit and review safety management systems; monitor activities across operations, including suppliers, contractors, and partners; lead investigations into incidents to determine root causes and prevent recurrence.
* Strengthen health and safety performance through stakeholder engagement, site inspections, and customer liaison.
What You’ll Need
* Ability to work independently (sometimes remotely) and deliver high-quality service across a wide area; experience engaging with people at all levels to influence health and safety culture.
* Desire to develop skills, participate in training, and benefit from coaching.
* NEBOSH General Certificate (minimum).
* Experience working with key stakeholders and delivering positive safety results.
* Solid grasp of health and safety legislation and a full, clean UK driving licence.
* Willingness to pursue a NEBOSH Diploma or progress towards it; knowledge of energy isolations, contractor management, COSHH, DSEAR, permit-to-work systems, working at height, lifting operations, toxic gases, and confined spaces is a plus.

Additional Information
Grade 6 role; salary between £36,410 - £46,990 depending on skills and experience, with performance-based progression. Pre-employment screening and criminal checks apply.
