Specialist Note Taker for Disabled Students
Terra Consultancy is a specialist provider of support for disabled students in University Centre Bishop Burton in Beverley, its timetable is:
Monday 9 - 1
Tuesday 9 - 11
Thursday 9 - 3
Friday 9-5
We are looking for Specialist Note-taker and a Sighted Guide to join our team and provide valuable support to students with disabilities. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing accurate notes of lectures, seminars, discussions, and off-campus events for students with disabilities.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
· To produce an accurate summative record of the content of lectures, seminars, discussions, off-campus events etc. The notes are taken electronically on the laptop/iPad during the lecture/seminar/event. You need to have iPad/laptop available.
· To deliver the notes to the student within 24 hrs in their preferred style and format to meet their needs.
· To complete and return relevant paperwork accurately and promptly.
· To work in a professional, helpful and flexible manner, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
· To engage in training relevant to the role.
· To guide blind students as required.
Person Specification:
· The successful applicant must undertake mandatory training. Candidates not willing to train should not apply.
· Evidence of education to degree (or equivalent) level, ideally with experience in the subject required for note-taking or a similar field.
· Accurate spelling and grammar skills.
· Ability to provide clear, succinct and relevant materials for students in their preferred format.
· Good IT skills and access to a computer (so notes can be typed up and formatted).
· Applicants holding an enhanced current DBS are 1st considered. The DBS checks that are up to one (1) year old may be accepted.Candidates without DBS must be willing to apply for a new one.
Terms and Conditions:
· The number of hours and days worked by Note-takers are flexible, based on student need and their course timetable which may be different each term.
· The support is live and may not always go according to the schedule, so a degree of flexibility and ability to maintain a spontaneous approach is important.
· This role is a permanent 0 hrs contract with periods of long breaks during Summer and Christmas, so candidates with additional sources of income will be preferred.
· A commitment to submit accurate records and time sheets promptly.
