About the role
This is an exciting opportunity to join an established Major Gifts team within the Office for Advancement at the University of Sussex. As the Assistant Advancement Manager (Trusts & Foundations) you will manage a portfolio of trusts and foundations to secure philanthropic income supporting the new Sussex 2035 institutional strategy.
Working closely with the Senior Advancement Manager (Trusts & Foundations), you will research, coordinate, write and submit proposals to a range of trusts and foundations, as well as produce reports and stewardship for existing donors. You will lead in the development of project proposals and applications, working in tandem with lead academics and professional services staff to build clear, compelling narratives tailored to specific funders.
You will build cases for support for key ‘flagship projects’ within the Sussex 2035 strategy and help identify and match new funding prospects to these initiatives.
About you
You will be educated to degree level and/or have relevant working experience. You will be self‑directed and have a positive, entrepreneurial approach to fundraising while also ensuring all established policies and procedures are properly observed. Your written and verbal communication skills will be excellent, and you will be able to work to tight deadlines.
The Major Gifts function within the Office for Advancement is a small, supportive and collegial team. Working collaboratively to motivate and inspire each other to achieve our best, we aim to make a significant contribution to Sussex 2035. In addition to being self‑directed you will occasionally be expected to support colleagues working on fundraising activities and proposals, and actively contribute towards fundraising plans.
Ideally, you will have previous experience of the UK Higher Education sector and be familiar with the Raiser’s Edge CRM.
About our Division
The CEA division is vital in contributing towards the success of Sussex. We work closely in partnership with academic schools and other learning institutions in the UK and internationally to attract the very best students we can.
Our ideas matter, that is why we work and advise on Institutional Growth Strategies to support the University in achieving positive outcomes. The life‑long relationships with our global alumni and friends enable many of the gifts that allow Sussex’s research to flourish.
Our university is situated off the A27, next to the beautiful South Downs where you will enjoy everything that our 150‑acre campus has to offer. We are accessible by public transport; Falmer train station is a five‑minute walk to campus and several bus stops are located within campus. We also have dedicated cycling paths and encourage staff to use these with our cycle‑to‑work scheme.
Sussex is a renowned, multi‑accredited, research‑led international university and this is only possible because of the people that work here. Whether you are a member of faculty, part of a professional services team or a student, it’s our people that make us great and we want you to be part of that.
The University of Sussex values the diversity of its staff and students, and we welcome applicants from all backgrounds.
The University requires that work undertaken for the University is performed in the UK.
